I for one don't think there was any need for anyone in the Stones to have to be a virtuoso player to make great music, I think they all knew what each other was capable of, and played to that strength.

I really don't know why or if the bar is raised for Brian Jones to be honest.

I think the debate was about musical genius, and John Lennon.

I think you can consider one persons body of work against another musically even if they worked in different genres, they both use the same language. At it's simplest, the same notes were available to John Lennon as were to Mozart.

I absolutely agree, both(all)types of music can be enjoyed no matter how complex or simple.
