RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: John & Paul & Mozart

I can only repeat, that in my opinion, McCartney was the 'musician' in the Beatles.

You are correct, I don't think anyone in Rock has demonstrated that they might be musical geniuses(keeping in mind that I am using Mozart as my yardstick). I have put forward two names from rock, that I think might be worthy of some consideration, if you were looking for a musical genius from that genre. Again though, in comparison with an undisputed musical genius, namely Mozart, I think they fall well short.

I have not attempted anywhere to tell you that it was because Mozart composed in the 'Classic' period and in a different style, that he should be considered a genius, and Lennon or McCartney not. All of that is you presuming what I might try to tell you, that's entirely coming from you. When and in what style is largely irrelevant when considering musical genius.

I don't have an awful lot of Mozart's work on disc or cd, and I don't know how much of it you have, but you can listen on youtube. A place to start might be Mozart's very first compositions, written at the age of 4, an age when Lennon and McCartney were barely potty trained. Of course it was George Martin who scored and arranged when the Beatles required a string quartet or whatever. Mozart had that ability at the age of 8, the age he composed his first symphony! Again, you can listen to this on youtube, and be absolutely amazed.

Of course the music mentioned was just the start of an absolutely prodigious output, that demonstrated an immense musical understanding, genius. He was 35 when he died!

I sincerely hope that as long as people are listening to music they will be listening to Mozart and the Beatles. It has been over 200 years since Mozart died, and there is no doubting the continuing popularity of his music. The music of the Beatles has been on the go a while as well, and there's no doubting it's popularity, and that's a testimony to it's quality. Like Mozart's music was, Beatles music has been very influential. For me though only one output has been blessed by genuine musical genius.

If you're ever giving the talk on Lennon and his musical genius, and why he deserves to be bracketed with Mozart in musical ability, let me know. That's one lecture I would like to attend.

Maybe we're talking Isaac Newton v Alexander Graham Bell if one can draw a physics analogy.
