RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: Brian Jones, not a virtuoso?

I don't know if you are being deliberately obtuse Keno, or whether there is a comprehension problem? I have nowhere said that Brian Jones was an average musician at best, I have consistently said that Brian Jones was a talented musician, who's musical imagination I much admire. I have said this not just here, but in other threads where Jones' musical contribution was being discussed.

Yes, you're clueless/smart connection sailed straight over my head.

You said that Brian Jones' recorder part on Ruby Tuesday was possibly the finest example of recorder playing, period. I said that if you were to say that in certain company I would be embarrassed for you. In certain company I would be less embarrassed if you pulled your dick out!

Just to impress on you, I was not comparing myself to Brian Jones, you will notice that I have said the difference between myself and Brian Jones was that he was talented, and I am not. The point I was making, jokingly but it holds true, is, that if I can play the part, then it is not virtuoso. Virtuoso playing requires technical ability and understanding way beyond my capabilities.

Again, in your next paragraph you are asking me to counter you by telling you why in my opinion Brian Jones played so poorly on Ruby Tuesday. The thing is I have never said that Brian Jones played poorly on Ruby Tuesday. So again, are you being deliberately obtuse, or is there a comprehension issue?

You are asking me to counter your claim, and I'm presuming you mean that Brian Jones' playing on your list of songs was to virtuoso standard. In a previous post you were complaining that all I had given to counter your claims were my words. So in my next post I gave a suggestion as to how you might be able to compare Brian Jones' playing to that of accepted virtuoso playing, i.e. by listening. I suggested that that might be the best way, as opposed to my words. Now you say that you are still waiting for my counter. I am at a loss. You don't want words, you don't appear to want audio/visual evidence for comparison. What have I got left, Semaphore?

Thanks for the re assurance on the anti Brian thing, however I don't think my statements on Jones' musical ability i.e. I think he was an imaginative and talented musician etc, were designed to make make Jones' contribution look weak, quite the opposite. If it looked to anyone that I was belittling his contribution, then that was inadvertent.

Again in your paragraph on balance, you are attributing to me things that I have never said about Jones' playing, I have not described it as average. I described it as competent i.e. he had the musical know how and ability to put down something that worked well.

As for balance, given that you consistently attribute to me things I have not said, misunderstand me deliberately or otherwise, I don't think there's much scope for a fruitful discussion on balance, objectivity or rationale or much else to be honest. The fact that we are so far apart in belief, wouldn't help much.

I can only repeat, that what I have written is to me balanced and logical with as much objectivity as I can bring to a subjective viewpoint(who said sophistry was dead?).

Yes I was joking, but will gladly accept the crown. King of Condescending has a ring to it, I can see myself in that role.

His Britannic Majesty Requests that you all attend the Coronation.

'Some are born Great, others achieve Greatness, and some have Greatness thrust upon 'em'

Oh, and like Napoleon I will crown myself. Wouldn't want to risk a spike right through my head now, would I?
