I'm also sorry if you felt there was a need to defend Brian Jones. I was certainly not attacking him, I don't think it was even me who introduced his name to this part of the thread
You started out making the man out to be your average rock musician in this thread - at best. Since you countered what I had to say about the man, I have every right to counter your reply. So that is why this part of the thread is taking place. It wasn't a crime for me to bring up Jones in this thread, and it was you - and only you, who countered what I had to say about him. Did you expect me not to reply back?
I may indeed be clueless on the skills Brian Jones had, but not totally clueless, surely? I mean I can play some of his music, so I can't be totally without insight. I feel it was a tad harsh of you to say that I'm clueless...
I was trying to tie 2 things together there in saying that you sound like you are clueless on BJ and then making the claim that you are also a smart person. Most smart people aren't too clueless, and most '60s Stones fans know that BJ had more talent in him than not only the rest of the band, but most in rock music. But you, at first, had to make him out to look as being only average at best. If he was only average, the Stones never would have made it to the level they made it to. So that's why I stated what I did, but I guess I was a bit over your head in how I stated it. Sorry. But you didn't get the connection I was trying to make about you being clueless and smart at the same time. But any Stones fan who feels BJ was only average is either joking, or not paying close attention to their music.
The other thing that is clear here, is that when I make an example of a song where Brian shinned, like his playing of the recorder on RT, all you can counter that with is to claim others are better than he was at playing the instrument. So what! I didn't say he was the best recorder player to ever grace the Earth, I noted that he was a virtuoso and a genesis, but that doesn't mean that others aren't. Yet that's your only way to counter my point? Counter what I have to say by showing why he wasn't one, why he, IYO, played so poorly on RT, or on any of the other songs he played recorder on. Or how he played so poorly (or was only average) on any of the other songs I noted. He didn't play them in the way an average person like yourself could play them, that's my point, which you haven't countered yet, and I don't think you can. When you play the recorder like Brian did, or the sitar, or the guitar, or the piano, or any of the different wind instruments he could play, or any of the 30 plus instruments he could play for that matter - and play them on the same high level he could play them, then I would not only say you too are also a virtuoso and genius, but ask you why you too aren't world famous like he was. For you to compare yourself to Brian is a joke, and why I was thinking you might be joking here. But after your last reply, I see you aren't, yet you still haven't come up with one bit of evidence as to why Brian wasn't the person who I claimed he was. That's clearly because you can't. You have only claimed that others were better, but so what, that proves nothing against my claim! If you wish to counter what I have to claim, show the proof! But you haven't done that yet... "I am waiting, I waiting, oh yeah, oh yeah...."

Not at all. From the many years of you posting here, I can see that you are not anti Brian. You are just blind to how great a musician he really was.
The anti Brian people who used to post here, and who still post perhaps at other boards, usually write stupid things like how bad a person he was, how he beat up women, and how he did nothing but hard drugs 24/7 and was too fucked up to function - yet these same morons are big time Keith fans, and Keith has been accused of the very same things as BJ. So that's the average anti Brian person for ya, and you have never made such comments, other than making his musical contributions to the Stones look weak, which those others also do, too.

Please show me the balance you talk about here. Where is that balance? I see no balance at all coming from what you have written! I'm still waiting for some examples of why you feel his playing on any of the songs I noted, was only average. You really think his recorder playing on RT was only average? Or his sitar playing was only average? Or any of his playing on any of those songs was only average? He was clearly above average at the very least, on every one of those songs I noted. Yet all you can come up with is why other non rockers were better than he when playing the same instruments. Yet I wonder how many of them could play another 50 or so instruments like he could?

What? Are you joking again? Why would I disagree on that point about you of all people? You are the King of condescending! It was you and your condescending that started this part of the thread! But oh yes, I see it every time you do it, I'm not blind to that kind of thing at all!
