Not sure what that has to do with what we are talking about, but it's a song I never cared for at all, and Joey was a bad man who pretty much got what was coming to him (and damn, his killing was about as big a news story in NY that you will ever see, at least back then anyway). But Dylan said that he didn't write that song, so perhaps it was his way of saying, maybe I never should have recorded it? But you know artists write and record all kinds of songs about both good and bad people all the time, but in the case of carter, Dylan wrote that song directly to help the man out. With "Joey", that wasn't the reason why Dylan recorded it, Dylan like everybody else, knew what the deal was with this Mafia asshole, so what if he sometimes could be a nice guy, most in the Mafia are that way, they love their family, yes, only problem is they don't love anybody else.
