I don't feel I was being disrespectful to the dead, but I will make sure to start a new thread rather than comment about a person who has recently died in their RIP thread. I don't know that the dead can feel disrespected. But I did not post it on the day Rubin Carter died.
I had just written a great deal about the case this morning only to find it was quickly erased at this site. That was disappointing for I spent about an hour of my time on it. I tried to be even handed and at no time did I claim "I know" Rubin Carter was guilty of murder. I am only interested in the truth. I have no agenda.
I am still waiting for compelling evidence based on hard facts, that Rubin Carter was framed for murder due to a wide ranging racist conspiracy. First hand testimony coming from someone other than Rubin Carter is needed.
The above essay at the top of my reply goes over the facts about the evidence against Rubin Carter concerning the triple murder. I have searched the net for compelling evidence he was innocent. I have only found statements by Rubin Carter claiming he was framed to support that claim.
On the other hand there is plenty written on the net about the case against him for people to read. Many believe he was convicted twice for good reason.
As I have stated earlier, I have loved the Dylan song, 'Hurricane', and watched the movie starring Denzel Washington, on more than one occasion. I was moved, and felt sorry for Rubin Carter. Felt very angry an "innocent man" could be convicted because he was framed due to racism.
I am a big fan of both Dylan and Washington.
Turns out the movie and the Dylan song, were based strictly on Rubin Carter's side of the story in his autobiography, and a meeting Rubin had with Dylan.
In Carter's autobiography a photo of Rubin in the army was doctored, with a pencil to lead viewers to believe he was a decorated soldier. The photo was found in his autobiography.

Please! Someone give me a direct link to "hard evidence" Rubin Carter was wrongly convicted of murder and was the victim of a wide ranging racist conspiracy to "get him". The verified evidence in the case seems to tell a different story.
Like I stated earlier. I'm just interested in the truth based on the evidence. I would rather believe the Dylan song was the truth, or close to the truth, than what I believe at this moment.
Rubin Carter wrote a compelling autobiography while in prison stating he was framed for the murders by white racists. In that autobiography a doctored photo of Rubin in the army as a decorated soldier can be found. Yet the photo is a lie. The medals and patches are drawn on the photo to make him appear a fine, decorated soldier. Fact is he was kicked out of the Army after 21 months and FOUR court martials as unfit to be a soldier! (Four court martials in 21 months is a lot people.) The doctored photo was an obvious attempt by Rubin Carter to deceive the readers of his autobiography. It poses questions about Rubin Carter's credibility in his autobiography. Specifically his claim he was framed by a wide range of white racists associated with the murder case.
One thing is for sure. Rubin Carter wanted out of prison very badly. Carter wanted us all to believe he wanted out so badly because he was an innocent man who had been framed by white racists. Could be Rubin Carter simply wanted out of prison and was prepared to do whatever it took to achieve that goal.
I am not the kind of person who believes what he wants to believe. If I was, I would assume Rubin Carter was an innocent man. Thus the Dylan song, and the essence of the movie in which fine actor Denzel Washington stars, would be essentially accurate in theme.
Take out Rubin Carter's claims and the evidence tells a different story.
Read about the case and let me know what you think. If you have hard facts to support Carter's innocence then please share them here. Hard verifiable facts with links, not just a statement, are the only thing I am interested in. Otherwise it is just heresay.
