Unfortunately or maybe fortunately, I am too young to remember anything of that particular time, so my knowledge of 'hippies'etc is sketchy. I thought 'hippies' was just the plural of 'hippy'
No problem, if you weren't old enough, how could you have known? "Hippie" and "Hippy" are 2 different things and 2 different kinds of people. The plural of "hippy" is "hippys" and for "hippie' it's "hippies". There were hippys first, and then came the hippies, who were really more like the Beats of the 1950s, other than I guess you could say that about the hippys, too. I should have noted some might claimed the Stones were more yippies than hippies, but no, they weren't... they were part punk too, at least Keith and BJ were, but you can't get a yippie and a punk mixed up, even if they were close cousins. But the 2 weren't the same, since most punks just didn't care overall about politics while yippies were born from far left wing politics.
