Unfortunately or maybe fortunately, I am too young to remember anything of that particular time, so my knowledge of 'hippies'etc is sketchy. I thought 'hippies' was just the plural of 'hippy'.
I read the article you gave a link to, and you make interesting distinctions. I was wondering if the views on what in actual fact distinguishes a 'hippy' from a, I'm at a loss for a word now, what is the singular of 'hippies', is it hippie?. Anyway, what I'm asking is this, are these distinctions your own or are they generally agreed?
I think what I was saying when I agreed with gomper was that whilst they had long hair etc, the trappings of their lifestyle e.g. rented and bought villas in the south of France, top of the range cars, mobile recording studios, jetting here there and everywhere, jumping in the speedboat and travelling up the coast for breakfast in Italy etc etc, all seems very material, and far removed from what I understood as a 'hippy' or as I now recognise, a 'hippie' lifestyle. Btw do you know what one of those 'Riva' speedboats that Keith had will set you back? Well in excess of $200,000 it seems. Muchos greenbacks!
