The guy in the photo only just died in the last year, but if I recall, nobody knew who the gal was. They were total strangers and just kissed each other on the street out of joy.
My dad on the same day, or maybe the next day, also had his photo in some paper, it was of him and this pretty gal holding up a newspaper with the big headlines noting that the war was over. My mom found the photo years later stored away and I saw it for the first time in my teens. So I asked my dad if the girl in the photo was his then girlfriend, as her name was noted on the photo, but my dad couldn't remember who she was at all. So it must have been a girlfriend of his, since he had many before he met my mom and usually would claim years later that he forgot most of their names.
