RE: RE: RE: RE: iconic figures

I know manny was looking for people sway, but I think broadening it out to include objects and imaginary people

is brilliant, and I'm sure manny wont mind.

Uncle Sam is definitely iconic, and I saw a certain representation of him (Recruitment poster)in my minds eye the second I read your post. It reminds me of another very iconic image used here for the same purpose during the first World War. It's the one with Lord Kitchener looking out with the Mona Lisa (now there's an icon)eyes who's gaze you can't escape, and the pointing finger pointing right at you, imploring you to serve your country by joining up to fight. If you don't know it I'm sure you will have seen something based on it, the idea has been copied many times.

I've been lucky enough to travel over and under the Golden Gate Bridge, it was a thrill each time, iconic indeed. For man made structures(I'm sure there would have been wummin involved as well) how's about we throw in the Pyramids, the Eiffel tower, Tower Bridge in London, and the Empire State Building (especially the shot of it with King Kong and Fay Wray). Then there's the Taj Mahal. I thought about the Great Wall of China, but somehow for me it doesn't quite make it, too fucking long I think.

Never mind Babe Ruth, what about Baby Ruth, can candy bars be iconic? I think they can, and I would put forward that one that I can't spell, Tobelerone, with it's distinctive triangle shape!

God, just about anything can be iconic. What about that famous picture of the Earth taken from space, the first time we all got to see what our planet looked like as a planet from out there in the cosmos?
