Babe Ruth makes total sense. And where I live you could easily add Maurice Richard. Funny how "iconic figures" are determined by our own personal interests. I love music and movies but do not at all care about sports, so sports figures didn't at all occur to me.
An object can be iconic, but it's not a "figure". Other iconic objects: the Eiffel Tower, the Sphynx, the Great Wall of China, the Mona Lisa, and many more which I'm not thinking of right now.
Can people be iconic without photographic representation? Is Mozart iconic? Queen Victoria? Rembrant?
