RE: Was the Vietnam War Justified?

Sorry, but your middle school librarian sounds like one of the war supporters who spread falsehoods to those who weren't paying attention back in the day. I don't know how old you are, but for her to spread these same falsehoods today at your middle school is insulting to any of us who were around back on that sad day 40 years ago.

I also know somebody, an old friend of mine, who also was at Kent State on that day. He was not a part of the protest on May 4, but the story he gives is the opposite of what your librarian claims. The pro Viet Nam war people used all kinds of lies and cover ups to keep their war machine going back in those days. I must agree with the other comment here that 40 years later, those of us on the other side still have to defend ourselves against war loving people who don't have a clue to what they are still supporting. The US government had no right to be in Viet Nam and force its teenage sons to fight that war. The true smart kids back then, were the ones who didn't die over there because they ignored the draft by refusing to sign up for it, or the ones who made the mistake of signing up and then had to flee the US for Canada and other countries once they were drafted. They only lived because of those actions they were forced to take. Then there were the lucky kids, like my old man, we got married early on and had children, so they would not touch him. Other lucky ones were those kids who were from rich families, who had their parents money to protect them from being drafted in the first place. The song "Fortunate Son" was so right on back then when it came to the rich, who really were the only ones to solidly support the war, as long as their own sons didn't have to fight it.
