I understand, but cannot justify everything that was going on on campuses at the time, but these were kids and not worthy of Gov. Reagan's threat to turn the UC campuses into a blood bath. Nixon called demonstrators "bums." The father of the girl shot at Kent State said "My daughter wasn't a bum." This period is viewed with contempt by many. "Hippies" is a pejorative. In my lifetime I think this era was the start of the dimming of the American social conscience.
