Having heard various accounts, I'll have to trust my ear on this one. Brian always performed his slide parts with considerably more finesse than what's heard on JSP. And stylistically he had a pronounced Delta-Muddy Waters vibe to his playing. Compare it back-to-back with Brian's masterful slide on "No Expectations", and there's no comparison. The slide on JSP sounds as if it's coming from some kid from down the block who's have a few lessons and is getting better but still sounds rough around the edges. And such was Keith when he was new to playing slide on this and other tracks from BB and LIB. Brian is indeed heard performing a flute-mellotron wash as background, almost a sonic throwback to the previous 2 albums. Having said all that, I still enjoy the recording and accept it for what it is.
