RE: RE: the final piece of the puzzle?

Okay, obviously Keith's a bad source to go by on this, but according to Mick with regard to NO EXPECTATIONS:

"That's Brian playing [the slide guitar]. We were sitting around in a circle on the floor, singing and playing, recording with open mikes. That was the last time I remember Brian really being totally involved in something that was really worth doing."

So I would interpret this as meaning No Expectations was really the last time Brian added something to a song, meaning he didn't play slide on Jig Saw Puzzle or Salt of the Earth or whatever. Or maybe Jagger just doesn't remember, it was a long time ago. They did a lot of recordings and might not remember who played what on each song.

It's hard because I always assumed that was Brian, not quite as fluid as he had been on earlier recordings, but maybe that's because he was suffering so much. That doesn't mean I like it any less, I love the slide playing on Jig-Saw. But if it is Keith, that would explain why the slide's a bit looser.

So here's a good comparison: We know Keith played slide on Monkey Man (which is actually one of my favorite slide bits he played, though there's not many). The tone and touch of Monkey Man does sound very similar to Jig-Saw. So that's a good argument for Keith.

I'll go back to Doncha Bother Me, which we know is Brian (very cool delta blues slide). It does sound pretty different from Jig-Saw, more fluid, more bite to it. But... it sounds similar enough in tone that it could still be Brian.

So yeah... I'm still not sure who's playing it. I'd like to believe it's Brian, add another great song on the album for him to go out on. But I guess the records are lost in time...
