I was just saying for anyone who might have thought my opinion was formed by something Richards said, that it was not. I don't fall into the 'most fans' category in this instance.
Good for you!.... but.... the first lie Keith ever told - about 20 years before he started in with his usual falsehoods, was this one about BJ not playing guitar in the studio anymore after late '67 - and I like a fool believed him - for a short time anyway - until I saw the SFTD doc when it came out. Then we see BJ playing guitar in the studio and it was like, what the fuck, Keith said he never played guitar! But yes, I actually believed Keith played the slide on NE when it first came out thanks to what Keith claimed and what RS mag wrote, and so did most fans back then! It never made any sense that he would say that, since he knew there was footage of Brian playing guitar in the studio and that would come out soon enough. But more than one source quoted him saying this, and he did say it.
None of your 'insiders' were there, and saw Jones play when the track was recorded.
True, but.... Stu was there, and at least one of them spoke to Stu about this and the entire BB album, and although he didn't flat out say Keith didn't play slide on JP, he did name the ones he did play slide on and JP wasn't one of them. So that was how my answer came about back when I was writing my book. There was no reason for Stu to make up a story like that, he knew who played what on the album. Plus, it sounds like BJ to me, not Keith.
