RE: RE: RE: Who's play slide on Jig-Saw Puzzle?

>(Although I can not imagine why someone would claim that Mr. Jones would play such a rudimentary style of slide guitar. Thought he was more accomplished than that...<

I have always loved Brian's exceptional skills on slide. I consider him a master, but what I hear on JSP is not the slide work of a master at all. I have always thought it was Keith giving the slide a go without truly great success. The notes are too repetitive, and harsh to my ears. It's not bad, but does not sound like the intricate work and touch of Brian to me.

>This is written under the Jigsaw Puzzle session heading and is nicked from the book The Rolling Stones Complete Recording Sessions 1962-2002 by Martin Elliott. It is not from an online fan site.

"Nicky Hopkins, since his introduction during the SATANIC session, was beginning to contribute a more prominent role in the band's overall sound and they used him to good effect on this track. The blues feel is still retained with some fine slide guitar by Keith Richards, but the songs rhythm is controlled by Nicky Hopkins incessantly pounding on the ivory keys."<

I'll be damned. This seems to be saying it was Keith on slide guitar. How can we know for sure?

>"An outtake of Jigsaw Puzzle has a different bass arrangement including Keith. Over 50 minutes of Jigsaw Puzzle is available on 11 session tracks and 14 takes illustrating how the song was built from the distinctive slide guitar and the piano playing of Nicky Hopkins"<

No mention of Brian but I wonder if both took a few turns at slide for this song. Maybe that is why there are session logs containing Brian's name and then this as well.

All I know is the released track does not sound like Brian on slide to my ears. Yet I certainly wasn't there. And I don't know anyone who was there.

Still, that is one interesting book quote to add to the discussion here, Queen.
