So I would interpret this as meaning No Expectations was really the last time Brian added something to a song, meaning he didn't play slide on Jig Saw Puzzle or Salt of the Earth or whatever.
Other than there's only one problem there.... "Jig Saw Puzzle" was recorded in March of '68 and "No Expectations" was recorded 2 months after that in May '68, so MJ could be remembering it all okay and be correct, NE could have been the last time Brian took part in a song like that from the beginning playing the slide and still played it on both songs. Plus Brian played on several more songs after that, that's a fact, but I believe Mick is talking about being there from the beginning of the song and working on it throughout as it evolved, where as on the other songs after that, he just added stuff to them. Heck, his last 3 songs he worked on were for the LIB sessions in Feb and March '69, a whole year after that... when he played on 3 songs, 'Midnight Rambler" (he played drums), "You Got the Silver" (he played autoharp) and on his last day in the studio with them in March '69 he played guitar on "Honky Tonk Women".
