RE: RE: RE: 2 things...

First, I appreciate how much you 2 and so many others enjoy the polls, and I love them too. So, what I would recommend is this, both of you and anybody else who missed out on the old Stones polls, when you got some time, just copy and paste the ones that you would like see run again, and then email them to me. I've only re-run a few of those old poll questions since I want the polls to be all new all the time. But you are right, many of you missed out on the older questions and it won't be a crime to run them again...

How many who are voting today were around to vote in 1999 or 2000?

You may recall that I ran a question at the end of last December asking how long folks been voting, and only 2.4% of the voters have been here since April 7, 1999, when the Stones poll started up, and another 25.1% been voting since between 2000 and 2005. So most voting today did miss the questions run before 2005. Plus we do have more folks voting today than ever before!

Okay, the second thing I wanted to note is why I say Stones poll week 1000 will be the last week for the poll... One is my age, the other is the polling system used here. Back in March of 1999 when my friend Tee and I built the polling system, Tee said to me "How many weeks of polls do you want the system to handle?" I had no clue back then how long they would run for, but I felt I had at least a few years of questions that would work and keep them going. So Tee suggested 500 weeks and I said to him, let's make it an even 1000 weeks, and I felt there was no way we would ever see that week get here, after all this was back in '99! So that's what we set, and now we are only 3 plus years away from the 1000 week mark for the Stones poll. Wow! So, the way the poll's admin is set up now, there is no way to make any new polls for any weeks after week 1000, although I could have the admin adjusted to add as many more weeks as I like, and I think I know ASP programming well enough to adjust the admin on my own, and our poll's data base sure has the room in it for another 1000 weeks! But then there's not still only not having new questions to come up with*, there is the fact that my body is getting older each day, it's not just our friends the Glimmer Twins who are getting older, we all are, even if I'm 10 years younger than they are, and in 3 and a half years I'll be in my mid 60s and well, that is official retirement age time, although I'll still be doing some work long past that time, the wear and tear on my body is getting to me already (I don't know how the Glimmers do it in their 70s, other than as Charlie has noted, when they aren't on tour, they do sit around their homes doing nothing all day). I know for many years to come, I'll still be my town's official and more than likely only weatherman, but that's easy work which I love doing. Chances are Gasland will still be going on after 3 plus years, and that's a bit of work (which I was thinking of stopping a few months ago). Then this entire domain is even more work, heck, my Web Cam sites for Colorado and NY, which I only started a few years ago, are on fire and bringing up all kids of ad money each day/month (and the main reason I'm hoping I won't need to run a fundraiser here this year). But I only have to work on those 2 sites to set updates, about twice a month, that's it. I'll also keep writing for the local newspaper in the future if they still want me, but I guess they will since I'm one of the longest writers there after 12 years and the only writer who has 2 regular columns per issue. So I'll work PT till the day I die I guess - or lose my mind, anyway.

But then there's my health, this body has already been breaking down, and none of it has to do with my crazy lifestyle of years ago. The 3 surgeries I had in the last half year all had to do with age and nothing more. I better not need anymore surgeries since I don't heal fast and I can't handle anymore, and the last surgery I'm suppose to get, to repair the bad shoulder I've had for 11 years now, isn't going to happen anymore, as I rather just live with that problem than be cut again by some surgeon. Old age does runs in my family's blood... Dad lived to 87, mom to 92, but I don't expect to see anything like that for myself. My parents weren't under going surgeries in their 60s like I am, plus my mom was a saint, she never smoked anything in her life, or drank heavy, just a glass of wine every nite at dinner and a beer here and there. Dad, yeah, he smoke cigarettes till he was 50, but he also wasn't a big drinker either, and like mom, he had that glass of wine once or twice a day. Wine I hear is good for leading a long life as long as you keep to only one or 2 drinks a day. Strange, but I hate the taste of wine and don't drink it all! Same deal with coffee, which many say drinking coffee will lead to a long life too, and my parents drank a lot of that stuff too, yet I hate coffee myself and never drink it at all. So all of that good stuff I don't do, as I also don't eat a lot of fruit and veggies either, like my parents did. But damn I love sugar, eat lots of that, and that helps to kill ya at a younger age! So I hope I make it to 80 anyway, but I don't expect too many years after that.

Now, the Rock and Beatles poll still have a long way to go till they reach their 1000th week, and perhaps in 3 years I'll keep them going, or at the least, the Rock polls, but even with re-running old Stones questions*, this poll will come to an end in week 1000, as I don't have it in me anymore to work on it each week. So I shall see about keeping the weekly Rock poll running in 3 years, and of course the On-Going Polls will keep being on-going until the day I die, then they too will be retired too I guess.

*I should note that, the Stones albums VS questions, which I run in different series, could be kept going for many weeks in the future if we don't get sick of them. I mean, there's what, 27 Stones studio albums alone, and if I put every Stones album up against each one, that 27 weeks of polling for just one album against the rest, and at this point, the one album run the most so far is 13 times/weeks against the rest. Anyway, 27 albums run 27 times each, is 729 weeks of questions, so if I only run that poll question alone, I'll never run out of Stones' poll questions until past the 1000 week mark! But if that was all I ever asked, I think we would grow tired of it, don't you think?
