British vs American

Yes. The truth of it smacks you in the face when you start thinking of the greatest bands ever and how many of them came from that relatively small country. Part of the reason I thought this question would be interesting.

I still have not made up my mind on which American band deserves the prize. Some great cases have been made by Gassers for bands like The Beach Boys, Bruce and the E Street Band, ZZ Top, Skynyrd, CCR, Aerosmith, Van Halen, and more. No mention of the Eagles? I am a little surprised by that, but hey I didn't think of them at first myself. Bob Seger And The Silver Bullet Band? Guns And Roses?

I am leaning towards Lynyrd Skynyrd, because their albums are so solid and they were certainly great live, but the real Skynyrd, (The only one which truly counts as Skynyrd) were only around for what a decade? Other bands certainly have them in the longevity department. By no fault of their own of course. Sad how they left us.
