>And the Heartbreakers without Tom are also nothing but a good band that nobody would wish to see without Tom there. Now I guess John Fogerty would say - well has said, the same thing about Creedence Clearwater Revival, that they were only his backup band. But I disagree with John, they were also a great American Band and back in the day nobody called them "John Fogerty and CCR",<
Well I guess we are more or less having an issue with semantics here. What if it was Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones instead of The Rolling Stones? I would still classify the group as a band. And that group without Mick Jagger would not be a great group to listen to. Who would sing? They would still be good but that band without Jagger? The E Street Band was just inducted to the R&RHOF. And while Bruce has done some solo stuff without them, Jagger has done some solo stuff without the Stones too. I think Bruce is much better with the E Street Band, Petty is better with the Heartbreakers. Your point is stronger with Bob Seger I willingly admit. Bob was pretty much the whole show and the talent both on lead vocals and lead guitar. As well as songwriter.
The reason I excluded Chuck Berry and Elvis is because for so much of their careers they did not have a consistent long term band. So I consider both solo artists.
I guess I'm saying, "What's in a name?" Whether it's Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones or The Rolling Stones, it's still the same band of guys who have played together for a long time.
I respect your opinion. Somehow a line needs to be drawn to distinguish a band from a solo act with a backup band. It's not as simple as one might first be lead to believe.
