Yes, session notes actually are wrong more often then some might guess. But I hear Brian playing there and I don't hear him playing sloppy like you hear. Plus that isn't how Keith plays slide, I've noticed on the 2 or 3 songs he did play slide on, that his slide is very limited and short, that's not what we hear on this song, and in 1968 when this song was recorded, nobody else in the Stones played slide. Plus Keith never claimed he played slide on that song, and you can bet he would have if he did (he only claimed that Brian didn't play any guitar in the studio after 1967, and that got some Keith fans to make the false claim it was he playing all of the slide parts on BB).
the subtlety and approach of Jones' playing, to my ears, does not appear to be there.
You noted yourself in this thread that he might not have been at his best on that day, yet to my ears his playing is fine on this song.
Like I have already said, it is entirely possible that it is Brian Jones on JSP, however it is my inclination to think for the reasons I have given, that it is possibly Keith Richards. That is not spreading a falsehood i.e. a lie, it's just giving an opinion as to what I think.
Yes, and you have a right to that opinion and to state it, and I have a right to counter it. But please forgive me if you took how I stated that, wrong. I never meant that you personally were spreading a lie, but that falsehood was a lie spread by others years ago, and that was only what I was getting at, not you.
When I wrote my Stones book years ago, I spoke to several top insides, and also to direct personal friends of the band, and every one of them said it's Brian's slide on this song... I asked because, as I already noted, it came up in the past about Keith playing slide on this number. Everyone of them said flat out that it's Brian and not Keith on JSP. I'm not sure why you hear Keith playing on there, but it is Brian.
