Brian was pilloried by Keith for sure, and Keith put down Brian for the exact same things he himself did! Yet pilloried by the fans? I think not. A few hard nosed Keith fans maybe, but fans were falsely told about BJ missing studio time years ago, and most didn't think twice about it, and as it was, many of those stories told turned out to be false. I recall being so turned on by Brian's slide playing NE on BB when it first came out, and then told 2 years later that it was not Brian playing, but Keith, since Brian missed almost all of the sessions in the studio when the album was made and didn't play any guitar at all after 1967. That story of course was a total lie, even Rolling Stone which back then wasn't a rag at all, reported this falsehood, and most of this lie came from Keith Richards. But I don't recall any of the fans turning on Brian when they were told this. The only small backlash I ever seen against the man by fans was in the early days of the internet when Keith fans were still believing his lies about Brian. I would take heat from some of them at the old Stones NG and the board at the old Stones site in '96, '97 when I defended Brian. But time proved those fans were wrong, and I was correct, but again, it was only a handful of Keith fans who made those false claims, 99% of all Stones fans never pilloried BJ.
