Well it could be Brian Jones playing the slide on 'Jig saw puzzle', that is a definite possibility, it's just that in style and touch, it does not sound like him. Listening to out takes from that session, some of the slide on 'Jig saw puzzle', are awful, out of tune and played clumsily. Now that could be Jones given that he was in a state at that time, and definitely in the departure lounge. However I don't think so, think it's more likely it's Keith Richards trying to get to grips with something that was not his usual thing.
If you play the tracks NE and JSP from Beggars Banquet, the first thing you notice is that it is most definitely not the same sound from the same guitar. For a start, NE has a slide part played on an acoustic guitar, and on JSP it's an electric guitar, the sound is totally different. I don't think the playing on JSP has Jones' sublime slide touch.
What sort of interests me now that we are talking about it is, the song is in the key of B, and I'm pretty sure the guitar playing slide would not be tuned to B, so how was it tuned? That will be my wee project for tomorrow. Maybe someone here knows?
