I agree with that Jaded Faded. Some strange views surfacing in this thread, and if I can say so, extreme and simplistic, in places.
I think it was Sway who said that there is no such thing as totally 'free speech', in our Western Democracies he is correct, we have various laws that limit it e.g. libel laws. In my part of the U.K. blasphemy laws are still in place I believe.
We should all cherish the right to free speech, and no institution should be exempt from a lampooning no matter who gets offended. Of course when you have rights, responsibilities go along with them. As I have said, for decades I have lived in or around this country's largest muslim community. At this moment I support Charlie Hebdo's right to publish their latest issue which portrays the Prophet I believe. However if I were to buy the latest issue, run off five hundred copy's of the front page, drive half a mile down the road, and in the name of free speech start fly posting them, then I'm pretty sure that apart from getting a kicking I would find myself charged with breaking several laws, such as behaviour likely to cause a breach of the peace, and no doubt I would fall foul of the race hate laws. Quite right. We have lots of rights, but if you don't exercise them responsibly they get taken away from you.
