More than that, I think it's an essential thing. Freedom to say things that everyone will agree with is not freedom of speech. It's anything but.

With freedom of speech comes freedom to choose which "speech" you want to listen to. "Charlie Hebdo" is not for everyone. It's not my thing, so I don't read it. But personally, I am much more offended by all the ads that use degrading images of women's bodies to sell everything from jeans to cars to whatever. But I respect freedom of speech and I just make sure I don't purposely stumble upon these ads.

Did you see this week's Charlie Hebdo cover? It's actually quite nice. The Prophet is shedding a tear and holding a "Je suis Charlie" sign. A caption above reads "Tout est pardonné" (everything is forgiven). The New York Times website has an image of it. The cartoonist whose work it is was late for last Wednesday's meeting, otherwise he would have been killed too.
