One thing that is worth pointing out: it looks like the two terrorists who gunned down the Charlie Hebdo team managed to do the exact opposite of what they wanted.
Before the attack, the paper was putting out 60,000 copies a week and was struggling to sell them all. They had very real cash flow problems and never knew how they were going to pay next month's bills.
Since the attack, over $3 million has been raised in donations for them, and the French government is going to match this sum. This week's issue, which came out today, was originally going to have one million copies. It soon became apparent that this wouldn't be enough, so that number was raised to three million. Now they're going to be printing an extra two million copies, making that 5 million in all. And this very special issue of the paper will be on sale for two weeks instead of one. An issue, it should be said, that has prophet Mohammed on the cover.
