I think that The Stones kicked The Beatles ass live even as far back as late 63 - they both played this benefit called The Great Pop Prom, with the fairly unknown Stones opening the show, and the Fabs closing. With an audience filled with teeny bops there to see The Beatles, The Stones opened and pretty much tore the Albert Hall up - giving The Beatles a nice scare! One also has to think that when The Beatles saw our boys at The Crawdaddy, they pretty much knew THEN that here was real, TALENTED competition (especially with all the crummy Liverpool groups coming out), and made a point of befriending them.
