And when it comes to the 60's, the classic battling ground between these two bands, it isn't close. The Beatles own The Stones, period.
I would not use those words, but yes, the Beatles were better than every rock band out there in the '60s, not just the Stones. I loved the Beatles myself and always will. But even in the '60s I dug the Stones more, other than Lennon, I loved him the same way I loved the Boys.
You could even make an argument that for pure hard rock, The Kinks and The Who both outshone The Stones in that time period.
No you can't, or you would lose such an argument! Both of those bands were excellent, yes, but not better than the Stones in any form. If you want to talk early heavy metal only, okay, then maybe, well with the Kinks, for sure, but even the Beatles had a few metal songs, where as to this day the Stones still don't have any. So you can't really compare them for that since the Stones never recorded that kind of music...... But for hard rock music, you got to be kidding, especially with the Who. They were very good in the '60s, but they only became great with the release of Tommy and that didn't come out till the very end of the '60s, and that LP wasn't 100% hard rock. Then Who's Next, which really showed how great a band they were, didn't come out till till 1971. With the Kinks, they didn't just play only hard rock, either. But I'll take the Stones hard rock numbers over either of those two bands any day, and I do dig both of those bands, too.
