Sorry for a long post, but I am really shocked by how little noise this tour is making. I think there are many reasons. Shit I'll lay it on the line, and I will offend someone here. Others may cheer me. Skip if you love the guys since 1978, if not read on.
Am I wrong or does the Stones going on tour not get the HUGE media coverage anymore? I mean I heard about it, but I remember back in 1989 or 1994 (I am 39) that it was SUCH a big deal when they went out. No there's not hardly a peep about it. If anything, people are talking about the Sticky Fingers reissue.
Myself I think this is deserved. I LOVE the Brian years, and I really like the 1969-78 period. Yet since 1980 I don't love them live. When I personally saw them live in 1994, it was cool to say I had seen the band but it didn't do much else for me. The tickets even then were outrageous, Keith really was on auto pilot, and Ron had to cover for him. Hated the stadium live experience, the crowd control was scary and a police horse went wild and was biting people. I hated the woman singers and props, not to mention Chuck and his damn keyboard. Not Fade Away, and Memory Motel were nice surprises, but it was easy to make this a one time thing. My favorite member died in 1969, I think Keith and Ron have coasted since the seventies, and (THE MAIN REASON) the tickets are too damn expensive.
My wife has never seen them and this year I said, "I'll go for you" but she agrees with me about the more recent work, and felt happy enough with old videos and records. It seems more and more people don't seem to care anymore about seeing the group live. ME I would rather buy original mono Stones vinyl, or rare vinyl boots with the money. I have many of the awesome boot and offica, vinyl box sets that have come out over the past five years on the vintage Stones and I feel it's money better spent.
So what do you think has Mick and Keith's greed finally made their traveling circus irrelevant to the press, the casual fan, and the hard core fan, opinions????? To me John Lennon keeps playing in my head. Other than Keith's face being messed up since late 1978, maybe karma's finally paid them a little visit. I mean they never let Ron sing one damn song all these years, treated Bill and Mick T like shit when they came back, fucking destroyed Brian. I think it's bitting them in the ass, no one seems to care about them on the road this time. Karma's gonna get you and I think it maybe catching up.
