The Rolling Stones are the most commercially successful Rock n' Roll band in the world. In fact, I think they are the biggest act in all of popular (or maybe even any kind of) music.
This is an inarguable fact. And yet they don't have any recent number one albums or songs, I don't know how much their videos get shown on MTV. They exist in a highly diversified market place, making money in a hundred different ways, possibly the greatest way being touring.
I think its possible that you see less of the Stones on media outlets where you'll see Rienna, Eminem, One Direction and other younger artists.
But you have to widen the lens and you'll see they are covered probably no less than they were two decades ago. In fact, they're probably covered more.
