Yep, I hear you, people in England have been told that as of yesterday, they should return to work if they can't work from home, but only return if it's safe to do so. That advice includes safe travel to and from your workplace.
I think those who are old enough, and maybe have long experience of employers, and their attitude to health and safety in the workplace, will not feel particularly safe returning to work while this virus is still in the community. I think plenty, like yourself, will feel they are being forced back into unsafe working environments. All I can say from experience is, that your best protection is a strong Trades Union.
Here, so far, during this pandemic, over 200 workers in the National Health Service, and our Care sector, have died for want of basic protective clothing. These are Government funded, and/or regulated institutions, who couldn't make the workplace safe. I doubt many will believe that safety will be the private employers first concern.
I would think the return to work, and easing of 'Lockdown' in England whilst the virus is still very active in the community, will lead to another 'spike', lots more dead people.
You'll note that I said 'England' is returning to work. The devolved administrations in the rest of the U.K. have taken the view that it is too early to return to work, or make any significant change to 'Lockdown'. This was something that the 'Buffoonic Popinjay' failed to tell the people of the U.K. when he addressed them last Sunday evening i.e. that what he was saying, only applied to England. That obviously was deliberate, an attempt to undermine the devolved governments' message, and fuel the confusion that has pertained from the off.
I'm sure if you compared the performances of the 'Buffoonic Popinjay', and President Trump throughout this calamity, you would see similarities. The Buffoon and the devolved Governments, Trump and the Governors, slow response, bungled just about everything from testing to ppe, confused messages so on and so forth.
When the final death toll is announced, you can bet your last dollar (which you may be down to) that the U.S. and the U.K. respectively, will have the highest rates in the Western World. This will be explained away in both countries by telling us that other countries are not revealing the true figures, are not counting this that and the next etc etc, and that in actual fact, we have done so brilliantly that it's just 'beautiful'...You see manny, you can't trust 'Johnny Foreigner', he just don't play fair, like us.....can we now talk about how you're going to pay back the trillions we borrowed to do such a great job in keeping you safe?
So that's the good news mate, I'll get back with apocalyptic news, presently. Meantime, keep drinking the Dettol.
