RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: guns (nsc)

Oh right, it's protection against bears and things, I didn't realise. Still, if you don't take your weapons out then they can't really protect you, what about getting a dog? That might give you some protection. I'm presuming indoors you have your guns under lock and key, any intruder animal or human, and the guns might prove useless.

I take the point about the changing of gun control laws, but that in the first instance is going to take a wholesale change of attitude to guns by individuals. This country is awash with guns in the hands of private citizens, more per head of population than anywhere else, and surprise surprise more people per head of population die or are injured in gun incidents than anywhere else. Way more, if you set aside war zones, and even then probably more people are killed and injured here.

In itself handing in your weapons might not seem much, two more weapons out of the hands of a private citizen, big deal. However if you could get your local newspaper or media interested, it might make a story, 'Why Gun Laws Need To Change, Why I Am Handing In My Weapons'. Who knows, that might be the start of something. To get change individuals need to act, and like you say, we have to start somewhere. Why not in your own personal life?

There are no doubt millions of gun owning citizens who regard themselves as responsible, and they are, until the moment they're not. I'm sure my uncle regarded himself responsible when he allowed me to use his firearm to shoot tin cans when I was 12. I'm lucky I didn't lose my left pointer finger in the accident that ensued, came within a fraction.

I've never owned a gun. If you don't have a gun you won't shoot anybody.
