RE: RE: RE: RE: guns (nsc)

When I say we have to start somewhere, I mean in changing the weak gun laws in the U.S. and make it harder (but not impossible) to own guns.

I see nothing wrong with the average person who is responsible and not mentally ill, owning one. Where I live, I keep my guns for protection against some of the wildlife around here. Not that I take them with me every time I walk out of my door, and I didn't have one on me when I had that close encounter last spring on my deck with that big bear. But one of my fellow locals here in town got marled real bad on his chest (his picture was all over Facebook, so many got to see it) about a month ago while he was out on his deck and he pretty much walked into the bear after exiting his home without looking out the door first.

Now in my case, I would not shoot directly at any wildlife unless my life was totally threatened. But bears (not humans) break into homes here every year, and I always got a fear that I'll forget to close and lock the downstairs windows one nite and awake to a bear in the kitchen, and knowing the mess and damage they make to your home once they break in (seen it first hand since I used to be a news reported for the local paper), I would not hesitate to fire my handgun - not directly at the bear, but at the ceiling, since bears are scared to death of loud noises and instantly flee once they hear a gun go off (especially inside a house). Better a hole in my ceiling than all the damage the bear would cause to the joint. That's the way I look at it. Plus we got the largest mountain lions and bears in Colorado where I live, too. I think I noted here once that the last glizzy killed in the state, in 1979, was killed by a local from my town while hiking in the mountains north of here. So I'll keep my 2 guns, since I never broke any gun law before and I don't think taking guns away from good people will solve the problem we have in the U.S. We just got to make it harder for the bad guys and mentally ill people not to get their hands on them, and that can be done. It isn't impossible, as Trump claims. That is where and who we need to totally crack down on with guns.... and it can be done!
