Yes, he hated rock and what it stood for. But he was a man of his own time and his own culture. Again, I think its important to separate the man and the artist. There are lots of artists we love, but if we knew the intricacies of their lives, their habits, their decisions, their politics, we wouldn't want anything to do with them. That is to say that if we held their music in the same esteem as them as people, we wouldn't care for their music. In modern popular culture, we tend to not separate the art from the person. This is because pop culture really amplifies the performer.
Here is my question... if we had no idea who Sinatra was as a person, and went only in his output of music, would we want him in the Hall?
I think that looking at (and hearing) all the other non-rockers in the Hall, and going on art alone, we'd probably say yes.
