I'm intrigued by the History lessons you're providing us with Keno, I really appreciate you typing all this up for us. Very interesting and enjoyable reads.
(Really nice posts there too, Gomper!)
All I can say about our Frankie-boy is that some time in the late 70s or early 80s I heard a couple of selections of Frankie with the Duke Ellington Orchestra live and it was fantastic! I heard this on a college radio station.
I finally found a used copy of it in one of the great record stores in downtown Manhattan. What a performance!!
Years later I purchased on CD Frank with the Count Basie Orchestra live. Very good performance, but not the best sound quality.
At one point on that CD, Frank starts talking/joking with the audience for a few minutes. One of the things he said was, "Sammy, I got your book and no you can't." That's what it sounded like and like I said, not the best sound. The crowd laughed hard!
I've always wondered what Frank meant by that. Obviously the audience must have known, the way they reacted.
Then some time later I read a book, an autobiography really, by Sammy Davis Jr. titled "Why Me", a real can't-put-downer!!!
In that book he said that "Why Me" was actually his second book. His first one, also an autobiography, was titled "Yes I Can"!
NOW I KNOW WHAT FRANKIE MEANT WHEN HE SAID "NO YOU CAN'T!!
Oh just one more thing. In that great book "Why Me", SDJ said when he was in England he hung out with the Rolling Stones!
He said they were cool! 😎
He did. "They were cool".
He said that Ronnie.
