Well Pluto, I for one am now verbally enlightened including the finer nuance for use of those terms, and with enough practice could almost consider myself one of the locals. Actually (perhaps, who knows?!), I happen to be one-quarter of Scottish descent although the genealogy is sketchy and I'm not aware of a specific locale for those ancestors. MacFarland is a family name on my father's mother's side. The remainder is Irish and Italian, along with Scottish a potentially volatile combination for putting those terms you explained into practice. Although not to fear since I'm fairly laid back myself. Sadly, none of that genetic stuff conveys any of the the finer cultural or linguistic aspects, so your lesson is much appreciated.
