RE: Anyone Remember The Honeycombs? lsc

I think those T-chest tapes are owned by someone called Cooper: the bass player of a group called the Millionaires--one of the last groups recorded by Meek. Someone from the Joe Meek society has listened through to them all and says there is a wide variety of material on the tapes. There are early demos by David Bowie, Marc Bolan, Tom Jones and others. Also, lots of song writing by JM. Finally, there are several complete recordings ready for release by the Tornadoes and others. I believe more than 1000 of the tapes were lost to erasure and sonic degradation. But I think the rest are fine.

I saw online that the longstanding British music paper NME (New Musical Express) had an item in 2012 on "The 50 Greatest Record Producers Ever". Joe Meek came top due to the pioneering nature of what he did. The top 5 were.

1. Joe Meek

2. George Martin

3. Quincy Jones

4. Nile Rodgers.

5. Phil Spector
