Ya know, this whole mess started over the word "genius". Several of us stated correctly that the word is open to interpretation. Every one of us has valid points to back up his/her stance as per their own interpretation of the word. No one is perfect... not Lennon, Jagger, or any person we deem a rock God or an average "Joe". Lennon was ALL those great things that GTIORR, Keno and Manny have stated. That might be part of the reason he is a genius to them. Which is fine! If he beat women (which I don't know for sure)well that is a terrible thing, but I guess he could still be considered a genius. What does one have to do with the other? I think Brian Jones was a musical genius! He could pick up any instument and master it in a short time! He beat the crap out of Anita (and other women), left illegitimate kids all over the place and was horrible to many of his friends. It doesn't change the fact that I think he is a musical genius!
I love the Beatles. Love what they stood for. After they broke up, I don't think any of them put out any really good music. It's just my opinion... don't beat me up for that! If there were no Beatles, and all we had to go on was their solo stuff, as individual artists of the 70's, I dont think a lot of us would have liked a lot of their music. Much like the Stones, they were much stronger as a band than individuals. As Keith Richards once told Jagger... this thing (The band) is bigger than the both of us! I feel the same way about the Beatles.
