No, it wasn't anything like what we saw in the Stones with BJ. If anything, John and Paul encouraged him to write more and they paid both him and Ringo a percentage of the songs they wrote even if the 2 had no hand in writing the song. George flat out said in the early days that he was afraid to write music, and he didn't like singing lead, either. So John gave a few of his songs to him to sing anyway. Think of the song "Do You Want to Know a Secret?". John wrote that one and George did a fine job in singing the lead on it, yet George said he hated how he sounded on that song. He just needed to grow a bit in the early days and he did, but he just never caught up with John and Paul, but nobody else could, either.
