At the risk of repeating what has been said by everyone else, here goes:
Although I understand what you are saying, I don't agree with you for the following reasons.
First off all, you are only familiar with the OFFICIAL released material ie Still Life and the L.S.T.N.T. movie. Both of these are NOT really true representations of the entire 1981 tour. Both were HEAVILY doctored. In the case of the Hal Ashby movie (where do I start?) My biggest complaint is the editing (Sir Stonesaukerlot pointed this out) It's been YEARS since I watched it but I remember either Brown Sugar and/or JJF having ENTIRE VERSES edited just so the movie would clock in at 90 minutes. Would it have killed Hal to NOT fuck with the songs and have the movie go to 100 minutes? (an hour and 40 minutes) Hell, even I can (almost) sit still THAT long. No there ARE better examples of the 1981 tour on video such as Hampton, Virginia. Actually, I'm more partial to the Seattle video (Day 2) Houston's OK too. ANYTHING is better than the official release. (as a whole)
I don't mean to laugh. (but I will anyway) Again I realize it's only because you are only familiar with the Still Life album. Pick up just about ANY of the 1981 bootlegs if you want to hear UNPOLISHED. Keith's version of Little T&A at Hampton for starters, missing the second verse by at least 3 or 4 seconds. (oh yeah, It was his birthday that day!) I've been recently getting into the new "King Of Drugs" which is a soundboard from Hartford Conn. (about 4 songs are from Phoenix)
