When you speak your mind, there are some people who will start to hate you, that's just the way it goes, even for those of us who are nowhere as famous or not famous at all. Being outspoken can lead to others hating you, and I know that first hand from a handful who post (or used to post) at this joint. While 99% of you Gassers all like me and respect me (and I feel the same way toward all of you), there's those in the 1% who flat out hate me because I'm outspoken, and liberal, too.
But where I disagree with you manny - and I rarely ever do, is people can't be that way and hide away their entire lives. That isn't living. Nobody should ever hide away (yet Lennon did for 5 years); we need to speak out and say things as we see fit if we are for real. We would all be mute puppets if we didn't do that. Yes, we will turn off some in doing that, but the only real good people are the ones who let you speak up and don't harass you - and they show you respect - even if they disagree with you. It's only the lowlives in the world who will put you down and go after you and harass you because you are different than they are. But most people aren't that way, some might not agree with you, but they will let you have your say and respect your point of view. That's why I say most people out there are good people even if they have totally different politics or religious beliefs than I.
Had Lennon hid away, he would have been a lesser man for it, so I'm glad he was who he was, and no, he couldn't be silent and shouldn't been, either. No one should just because of the sick minds out there. Such scum will always be around, as that's how just a few humans are wired, but most of us aren't that way. But if you don't ever speak up, you lose in the end.
BTW, Lennon didn't die for his views, he died because of the mental illness that the nut that killed him had.
