RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: John Lennon

Oh Keno, I can't ignore this post, now can I?, especially when you're all but begging for the response I'm about to give. I will try to keep it light, however:) so keep in mind my tone is supposed to be playful because you all know my thoughts through the many discussions we've had here on this topic...and also because you all secretly know I'm right.

John a better lead player than George!? WHAT!!!! No way, no how. George had incredible chops and style, and that style complimented John's gifted songwriting, and the lock and groove he established with the rhythm section produced results that were definitely above what would have been produced with John locked and grooved with them. His timing, his spare yet sharp solos, his innate ability to know exactly how to compliment the needs of the song, not the needs of his playing, are what set him apart and yet also equal to the flashy amazing players like Clapton, Mick T and others. George was incredible, and when you consider his own songwriting "within" the Beatles and "without", you have no choice to but to conclude that HE in fact was the real genius of the group, not any of the rest of them (George Martin included).

Next, nobody played better acid lead than John? Tell that to Jorma Koukonen, or Krieger, or Beck and Hendrix for that matter. John would have known better than to make that statement, and perhaps that is why he was justifiably humble about his guitar playing when he was most certainly not humble about a great many other things. No, John was no genius, but I'm open to discussing whether or not there are others in rock music or any other kinds of music. Okay, good, I'm glad that's settled....
