RE: RE: school daze

Our school summer breaks are for six weeks from mid July - kids go back to school the first Monday or Tuesday of September.

Sounds like there's more schooling in the UK than here. Here and in most of Colorado, the kids only go to school 4 days a week, Monday thru Thursday. They started that about 20 years ago to save money on energy costs and it works. A 4 days week means one day less of using all of that electricity and all of the other utilities. In the long cold winters they can turn down the heat in the buildings 3 days a week and that alone saves a lot of money. But it does make for a longer school day, too. Schooldays run from 8am to 4pm. Summer break here starts after the third week in May and the new school year starts usually the last week in August. I recall in NY, school was 5 days a week, 9 to 3, and summer break didn't start until the last week in June, with the new school year starting up the Tuesday after Labor Day, which is always the first Monday in September. From what I understand, it's still that way back east today.
