RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: deflated footballs...did

The real problem here is the NFL! Why do they even allow the teams to hold on to the balls after they inspect them? Why do the QBs even get to chose what balls they use? Kickers don't get this option, so why do QBs?

Yes, the problem is the NFL's fault directly! At the least, after the QB picks what balls they want to use, the league should be given the balls the day before the game and the QBs should never see them again till they use them during the game. There would be no chance to cheat at all if the NFL did this. Instead, they allow this to happen when they hand back the balls to each team.

No ball boy or equipment manager is going to underinflate those balls purely on their own. Let's be real here.

Okay, let's be real here... Of course a ball boy or equipment manager could do this without anybody else, including the QB, knowing they are doing this. Humans do shit like this, and some humans think nothing of cheating, especially if maybe they got a gambling problem and need to see the team they picked, win. There could be several other reasons why these people could cheat and do this. But no, most never would, and I find it hard to believe that's the case this time. The bottom line is, if a QB wants this done, he can do this on his own with nobody else even knowing about it, in about 2 or 3 seconds time per ball. In less than a minute all the balls could be deflated by the QB alone!

Now it's interesting that they don't allow the kickers to chose which balls they can kick field goals and punt with before the game, and shiny new balls out of the box that are never opened until they are used in the game to kick, is how the NFL does it for the kickers.... It's much easier to kick an old ball further than a brand new one, and kickers have bitched about this for years now. So the NFL has it 2 different ways for QBs and kickers when it comes to the balls used, and in this case, that's unfair to the kickers. The rules need to be the same for both!

With all of that said, the NFL should consider, in games when the temp is forecast to be below 32 degrees, or if it's raining or snowing, perhaps they should allow the ball to be slightly deflated for both teams? Weather conditions do change the course of a game, mainly because of the problems with a wet and totally inflated ball being harder to catch and grip; take out just a bit of the air - for both teams, and you will have less dropped balls and the game will be played more like it would have been played if it was warmer or drier. Heck, they are allowing the game - which is suppose to be played outdoors and not indoors, to be altered every time they play it inside if it's cold and bad weather is happening outside, so if they can allow that and give an advantage to the teams by changing the weather on the field, why not for outdoor games, where they can't change the weather conditions, use a ball that easier to play with? As a fan, I would rather see that than my team lose a game only because of weather conditions.

Finally, on if the Pats cheated or not. The bottom line is we can't be 100% sure on this of course, but, you gotta go by what you see and hear. Tom Brady, who BTW is my favorite NFL QB, is sure acting guilty here in the way he has been only half answering the questions about this. If I was accused of anything that I didn't do, I would not act in the matter he's acting in. You don't half answer questions, you flat out defend yourself by totally speaking up and proving your point, and the same deal applies to his coach who has hardly said a thing on this other than deflecting the questions to his QB..... But why is it always and only NE that so often gets accused of cheating in the NFL and no other teams ever has this problem? The thing with Brady is, and this is something that I've noted here for years about him, and one reason why I like him so much, is that he is the only QB in football who seems to be able to play the game as well in bad weather as he plays it in good weather. I always felt that showed just how great a player he is... but now I got to think, has he been doing this all along for years now when it's snowing or cold, and getting away with it? Is that's the only reason why he seems so special playing in the cold and snow? I gotta think that now, and for me anyway, he just went down several notches in my book directly because of this. I'm now thinking, did he beat my Broncos in that cold game they played this year only because he cheated and deflated the balls he played with?

Will I now root against NE in the SB because of this? Well there's no way I'm rooting for them anymore, but there's no way I'd ever root for Seattle either with their "we are better than anybody else" mind set and the way they brag all the time, their antics just flat out sicken me.... The SB is ruined this year thanks to all of this crap and I don't even feel like watching it now. But again, as far as the ball thing goes, the main problem is the NFL and their rule that allows this to happen, if they held on to the balls till game time, none of this would be what everybody is talking about a week before the big game, as this wouldn't be a problem.
