You have every right to disagree with me, but they are clearly telling a story! Lets take the JJF video for example... The story they are telling is a story and statement about themselves. You got to remember, this was made in 1968, not today. They had very long hair for '68, unlike most men had, and they wore that heavy makeup, something your average man never, ever wore in those days. So they were clearly telling a story about themselves, which was - we are different, we are long haired hippies/punks who are anti-establishment, and we are not like you or any other average males, and this is the new way to look if you want to be cool. That's the story which was being told in that video.
