Others who would make the list as ultra famious people,known the world over might include madonna,certainly muhammed ali,jagger and richards of the stones,bob dylan,marlyn monroe,bruce lee,john wayne,elvis presley.Who else?Jagger said that the only place he goes that people dont recognise him is the middle east,as he has gone to turkey afew times.
I don't think most of those people would rank. I can definitely tell you that based on my experience that the vast majority of people in China wouldn't recognize or know who Mick Jagger. He might be recognized on a busy street in either Beijing or Shanghai but I don't think he would be recognized in much of the country.
When I was in Nanjing (roughly the size of Chicago), my 30 year old colleague had no clue who the Rolling Stones were. I was in a very large, modern city. If Mick walked down most streets he would probably get some stares and looks but it isn't because they know who he actually is.... it would be because he was a western.
I think that would be true for most of the other celebrities you listed. There aren't too many people that are known the world over. I have to say that I have been impressed by this response to Michael Jackson's death. I really can not believe it honestly. Despite what we Stones fans want to believe, the Stones aren't in the same league of world wide fame and recognition.
