Damn right Wenner needed Lennon, and it wasn't ever the other way around, never! Wenner was absolutely a nobody compared to Lennon.
John didn't ever need anybody's help ever in anything after 1962. He took 5 years off and totally stayed out of the limelight, and then when he returned he didn't need any help at all from anybody, his new record spoke for itself and that's why it sold great. Saying that the elevation of John Lennon to mythical status after his death was due to Wenner's close relationship with Ono, could only come from somebody who wasn't around back then to understand and see what actually took place. It had nothing at all to do with Wenner, sheee! The minute Lennon's death was known, every single rock station broadcasting started to play nothing but Beatles music and solo Lennon music for several days after, while people all over the U.S. and Europe (and I'll bet down under, too) gathered together everywhere and anywhere they could to talk about John. I don't ever recall anything like what took place and happened after John was killed, happening for anybody else, ever, other than in the U.S. when JFK was killed, as the same deal happened here for that, but only here, not all over the world like when Lennon was killed.
Hell, Wenner wasn't even that well know to the general public back then, but I can assure you that he had nothing at all to do with placing Lennon to a mythical status. That is so ridiculous it's even had to just type it out!
