Well of course not, he didn't originally write the song, so why would he? But that isn't what we are talking about here, we are talking about the people who originally wrote the song only, and there's a major difference between that and doing a cover of a song that isn't yours.
When you cover another person's song, you can't claim any writing credits, since the song was already written and copyrighted. Think of the Van Morrison song "Gloria", it's been covered more than most other rock songs and it has become a tradition now on that song to change the lyrics around a bit and ad lib as the vocalist sings it, regardless to who covers it. Heck, on Jimi Hendrix's cover of it, he not only changed more than half the lyrics of the song, but he also changed the music around to where it sounds totally different from Morrison's original. But he never claimed any credits, since it wasn't his song to do that.... Now there have been a few instances where that was done, where an artist claims "additional lyrics by.....", but it rarely happens and I'm pretty sure if you do that, you don't get a cut of the royalties for your cover of the song, since it isn't you song.
And yes maybe keith just thought on the recordong that as the marimbas sounded good hed let his guitar take a back seat...but instructed brian how to play it.
He took a back seat to the song since Mick wrote all the lyrics to the song and Brian played an instrument that Keith doesn't have a clue how to play or get any sound out of. Just why do you feel the need to take away something that Brian came up with? Keith didn't have anything to do with Brian's marimbas on that song, the part was thought up by BJ, not Keith.
