RE: Winter

I'm doing my Rosen Movement training in Carmel Valley - go there twice a year. My home's way way farther north - until I got that home I adored Pacific Grove and Carmel, now they're "just OK" - funny how we get spoiled. From my home I look through the Redwoods out to the ocean which is 18 houses down the steep hill - there's a few shops at the bottom of the road (supermarket, Mexican restaurant, Thai restaurant and a little place for coffee/tea and cakes) - the town (if you could call it that, LOL) is 3 miles down the road - there's a whole TWO supermarkets there, the pharmacy closed this year, so the nearest one is in the next town about 14 miles away and I hear that will close in the not too distant future. There's some good restaurants and a few hotels, a great pizza place and a few shops that sell all sorts including some clothing. There's a fabulous state of the art multi million dollar arts center that is fully paid for - a lot of people from San Francisco, Santa Rosa and Sacramento have a vacation home there, and quite a few wealthy people have retired there (though there is a hispanic community and there are a lot of people who aren't so wealthy there too). There's a great bookshop, two kitchen shops, a few art galleries, a few places for lunch, a couple of hardware stores, one bank, a garden nursery, two florists and most importantly for me - a new age shop, and not much else. The nearest shopping mall is in Santa Rosa - 2 - 2 1/2 hours drive away. Some people arrive with kayaks on the top of their vehicles - I guess they go to the Russian River, but maybe there's other places too. There's no night life - apart from eating out. I inherited a hot tub, and it's nice to look out at the ocean and the sky, but I wouldn't want to upset the sounds of nature with music - that's for indoors - it's way too peaceful there. At weekends it can get a bit noisy - well if you could consider the occasional sound of bikes driving down Hwy 1 noisy. During the week it's way more peaceful as the "tourists" leave early on Sunday. I've not been there in the summer yet, so am guessing it's a bit noisier all year round there. I like the idea of a wood fired free standing sauna - cedar sounds brill to me. I'm trying to imagine it - I'm not fond of dry heat saunas. I've had a sauna in my shower unit for about 22 years in the UK - used it a lot once upon a time, ought to again since it's there). Isn't this a fun thread - one of the best I've participated in for ages!!
